I know the following will sound over the top, but this all part of the Trump admin fostering fear. Thinking they would follow rules and norms is like believing in the tooth fairy. Great discussion revisiting the idea that this administration relies upon unsubstantiated claims as their basis for pursuing punitive measures to achieve compliance and control, rather than attempting to rectify the alleged underlying issue of their claims. This has been true for their attacks on law firms, universities, classes of people, as well as individuals. It would seem to me, the denial of habeas corpus is but a subset of the larger issue which begs litigation. The chronic unconstitutional overreach being perpetrated by this administration encompasses a range of violations, each separate but connected in principle to that of the denial of habeas corpus. Perhaps as you indicated, Asha, the only legal remedy available is that of impeachment. Unfortunately, governing with a self-serving and fundamentally flawed, in either character or courage, majority in the legislative branch, this is a moot resolution.
The goal of the very public arrests is to create a spectacle. All of it is a grand distraction to keep our eye off the ball while they pilfer the country!
Maybe ICE agents are under contract with dark money. Another explanation is they don’t want to lose their ‘pay’ for arrests. If they do, maybe they will turn on their ‘bosses’ and do violence on them.
