I just survived a firestorm in So. California. I don’t know how I’m going to survive a shitstorm in Washington DC.

As a veteran CA wildfire survivor (2003), my heart goes out to you. I remember the evacuation weeks were some of the worst weeks of my life. But this god-awful administration has me more frightened than the thought of losing everything I owned in a fire. This time it’s not just my little community in the mountains, it’s the whole frigging country I’m frightened for.

Take comfort in this at least: Dictators never, ever end well. The odd thing is, they never seem to be aware of this fact. Think Mussolini hanging upside down in a filling station, Hitler, Goebels and family, the sweethearts at the Nuremberg trials, the International Court at the Hague. Idi Amin, Sadaam, Ghadaffi, Asaad who just fled to Russia and probably won't have a nice time, And the list goes on.

Mme Defarges are just quietly knitting. All over the world.

Dear Ruth P, your unnecessarily inflammatory replies, especially regarding your assignment of blame for catastrophic CA wildfires to the governor, are frankly disturbing. If you’d like to have an intelligent and civilized discussion of the failures and successes of the state of modern firefighting and the condition of CA forests, I’m game. Assuming self-education wasn’t the driving force behind your comments, I’ll assume you won’t engage me on my terms. So in brief, CLIMATE CHANGE, urban intrusion into wild spaces, and decades of poor forest management (no single governor caused the fires) , in addition to a particular wind phenomenon are the factors to blame for those recent fires. The current administration is adamantly anti-climate change, pro-fossil fuel industry, and unless stopped, will contribute still more to the very real problem of global warming.

Climate will always be changing - we are going through Climate Cycles, that are attributed to the sun and the Solar flares that affect us on earth.

When there is little carbon in the atmosphere the temperature rises, when there is more carbon in the atmosphere temperature cools. I would invite you to view Greg Brandon on Gaia channel in his Open Minds series where he "using science' show this clearly. He even spoke at the UN about this 10 years ago.

Unfortunately most of the 'conversation' here has been censored as the Left doesn't really want to have a dialogue but a monologue of Marxist rhetoric......

Slow train is coming - time to get onboards

I recall seeing data showing a pretty direct correlation between the Industrial Revolution and global warming, but I’m open to learning. What and where is the Gaia channel? I must say, your comment about Marxist monologue pretty much discounted your credibility, sooo.

I think that third bucket can be seen as a massive spoils system where Musk is being given keys to the kingdom (of data at this point) and control over future spoils such as contracts and deregulation in exchange for the 300 billion Musk spent to get Trump elected.

Expand full comment

Exactly. We did not give him Treasury but he's taking it over. Why is he not in jail?

Expand full comment

Umm. Correction. Musk contributed about $250 MILLION to Trump. He has profited about $200 billion since, and that's the tip of the iceberg of profits he will cream off for the Fat Cats through his government unelected official roles.

Have you looked at his stock, it's gone from $489 to $330 today...... please help me in understanding how he's 'made a lot of money'?

Thank you

Makes one wonder what kind of kompromet Musk has on CF4547. I think a pee tape is small potatoes at this point in time. Not sure I even want to explore the possibilities.

Brilliant Graff piece -- I'd call it satire except it's true and factual and very scary and not at all funny. The First Felon does increasingly appear to be a figurehead substantially disconnected from reality; the mass firings at multiple agencies definitely have a Stalinesque vibe; our elected "leaders" either support the takeover or are saying and doing nothing; and more.

Robert Hubbell stepped up and bluntly called what's happening a coup.

I dare anyone to tell him (and me) that that's not correct.

Expand full comment

No that is not correct.....

So over the last four years, our country gave to about 12 other countries $3 trillion which is roughly 10% of our national debt of $34 trillion. So we're putting ourselves into debt, so that other countries that are probably money laundering back to the Democrat politicians and feeding no one and helping no one to USaid.....

Stalin, who was a communist and the worst genocidal killer in world history before Mao, came in and killed even more of his own people - Stalin easily killed 50,000 of his own soldiers and generals. He then went on to kill at least 50 to 80,000,000 of his own people most of them Christians through the tactic of collectivization and through famines.

Do You see Trump or Elon calling for the cut back and food no - they're actually encouraging farmers to get away from using pesticides, which actually kill people like pesticides (created by Rockefeller) and to create more food to feed the starving

so where in your brilliance do you find any of this to be contradictory to reality?

Thank you.

I don’t know, panicking seems like a reasonable response. It would be reassuring to see our elected reps and media voicing sincere outrage, if not outright panic.

Look at every single tech company from Google to Facebook to yelp to Groupon to craigslist to salesforce.com to Oracle to LinkedIn, you name it.

All of these ALL OF THEM

All of these were founded by people who weren't Christians and they weren't Muslims.

They're the same people who run Hollywood, run the radio stations, run the newspapers and now they run social media and they run silicon valley.

It's been going on for over hundreds of years. They are the divisive ones......

Thanks for the Douglas Adam's shout out. I still keep a towel handy and enjoyed his series.

The ultimate answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything is still 42. The people who get the reference are "my kinds of people.' I have lots of "my kind of people" - I play in various circles and networking in those circles has been helpful and I engage with them for various reasons , but if I put all of those people in one room? A hockey fight would break out. They are there for a reason, and I do notice if they "go dark" and have been known to ask for welfare checks and find out they have been taken to hopsice and time is short in the "before times."

I did not allow flame wars on my socials that I was on, and if after a PM and a warning flag was thrown out, I'd block and clean up on aisle 5.

Re: the tragic Potamac crash, he of course had to make it about himself ASAP, claiming that "DEI was to blame". You and I know the absurdity of this all, but the more I see how some people are willing (or want to) accept this "explanation" underscores the need for MORE education and critical thinking skills in this country. Re: the migrant show, its just that...a show because that's all D T Barnum can do. Dr Russell Moore of Christianity Today wrote an interesting column about how Jesus himself was a refugee, and how dehumanizing these people, and using them as a tool to a political end is against Biblical teaching. And for all those "Christians" who cast aside this argument, and are focused on the dollars and cents of it all, the Bulwark podcast recently featured General Mark Hertling sharing his knowledge regarding the operation. He explained of course that the use of C130s to carry out these operations is excessively expensive, and worse, there are only less than 100 migrants on board. He explained how if any military leader had been asked what was recommended for use in such an operation, it wouldn't be one of these. Oh, and of course there is the "buyout" of the federal employees. Hopefully, no government employee was gullible enough to fall for this "offer". I mean where can one spend their "Trump Bucks"? I happened to notice that eggs were $9 yesterday, but of course that is Biden and DEI's fault of trying to use roosters in addition to hens to lay eggs. Eggs, bacon, orange juice and coffee are all very susceptible to prove fluctuations and I have noticed this since the pandemic. Of course, now that our Dear Leader is back, we'll have to be thankful if we even HAVE any of these available to us at any price.

This might be obvious, but using DEI is the new dog-whistle for (insert racist slur) for their audience. Thin of it as "code-switching." When they hear DEI they hear (N-word or similar).

Unfortunately my mother is full-blown "UltraMAGA Cultist" and beyond reaching. She ecstatically voted for this, and is elated that the county she lives in is doing a "professional bounty hunter" program to pay $1000 per person they report and hold til the police show up. The penalty for being caught without documentation is Felony conviction and life imprisionment with no chance of parole.

Of course that state was also a sundown state, and unfortunately she's racist and thinks a theocracy is a wonderful idea. She cut me out of her will to leave me $1 back in 2008 or so when I called her out on her "Obama Birtherism" and told her the "Pray for Obama" from Psalms was not funny. She thought it was hilarious, and she claims to be a Christian and goes to church. I am an only child, the rest of my aunts, uncles and daddy are long gone, and she donates a lot of money to the Heritage Foundation. She voted for this, is dependent on Social Security, and has no savings due to paying for chemo to fight her AML.

She's about to "find out" quickly what she voted for.

I did not vote for this. I voted for Harris, and also voted for "The email lady." I stay politcally engaged and always have been since leaving the military in 1990. I'm friends with my former reps and former mayor, friends with "Mayor Pete" and others I met at our state Democratic conventions over the decades. We still keep in touch. I feel just as powerless as everyone else here, but will do my Rule 303 and have my ways I will not disclose here.

Let's just say that I know people who can assist with "camping" or where to buy "cute winter boots" and can put them in touch with help via underground methods that Musk or Zuck have no reach to.

Sadly, we had this exact conversation a few days ago, again. She reiterated, quite clearly, she didn’t give a damn, if my family was thrown under the bus, it sucks to be us, be she approves with much enthusiam and that she did vote for just this, would do so again, and “God” will take care of her. She furthermore told me that any argument would entrench her even further.

If she should ever decide to contact me, that is her choice. I’m done with her, and worrying about me and mine, in my household. We are done.

More than likely she will choose not to contact me, but we were already at that point for the last 20-something years. When she was diagnosed with AML and it was rather agressive, I did come down to be there for her bone marrow transplant, help care for her until she was able to care for herself.

As her only living relative other than her husband, who came into the picture after my Daddy died, and knowing her husband will most likely die before she does, she’s more than welcome to sleep in her car, and her grants for expensive chemo meds that Medicare doesn’t cover are GONE. She does not care. She will never care. That’s Shirley for you.

Out of her car, maybe. I can't help her, and may be unable to help myself. I don't mean to sound crass or callous, but the situation is what it is, and I've mentally worked through it with professional help for decades.
