One of the things I've enjoyed at the protests is that the local police do a great job keeping everyone calm and safe. No one is arrested. It's helped that the weather has been great. The officers are all volunteers. None were told they had to be there. The non-trumpers always introduce themselves to strangers and ask if they can take pictures of various signs.
I'd urge people to go with people of various generations. That makes it even better.
Asha, our dear friend, thank you. And chin up. We felt such solidarity with others at the rally, and even on the light rail to and fro today. We are here, we are determined. You have our back--so good to know--and WE HAVE YOURS, dear. Namaste.
When I hear those words “We the People” I cannot forget who the subset of “we” was. It didn’t include women. It didn’t include slaves. Who did it include? Wealthy white men who didn’t like high taxes to a king.
So what. Over time, it's been amended to include white men without property, former slaves and women. You are holding on to the past. We the People is all of us, including illegal immigrants who have Constitutional rights. That's what we all marched for yesterday.
OK, I understand where you are coming from. Nevertheless, you made a “you” assertion, which is incorrect. I’m not into static when dynamics provides more information. That is basically what you are saying without recognizing the power of the originalist over the dynamics.
Without getting to deep, who was it that gave corporations equal rights to everyone in ‘We the People?’
Who honestly and knowledgeably believes our legal system treats the wealthy and the poor the same when anyone with experience knows that one can get as much justice as they can afford?
I will cut of my comments here so as not to turn into a rant.
I don't understand what "the power of the originalist over the dynamics" means.
But I take umbrage with dismissals of the Constitution. It's flawed, but it's all we have, along with the ideals of the Declaration, that makes us Americans.
First, my statement about ‘orginalist’ was an oblique arrow against Dipshit Judge Scalia with his rationalization of how to interpret the constitution.
Second, what you see is different than what I see. FYI, my view comes from early experience being on a Grand Jury and over 20 years being an expert witness in the legal world.
Third, my experience in no way invalidates your view or how you feel about the constitution. I’m just explaining my experiences and knowledge of what influences helped Jefferson develop his views of Democracy. Hint: it was not the ancient Athenians.
I’ve been on over 10 petit juries, one with a pro bono lawyer who slept through the proceedings, and I am the daughter of a prosecutor then defense attorney. I have NO argument with the fact that justice is a function of $$.
Trump wants to overturn the constitutional order. We must keep it and stay focused on that.
He is not so gradually moving towards the Insurrection Act and I’m worried these types of actions will become normalized to the public, which I’m sure is the intention. Kind of a national Stockholm Syndrome where the majority adopts the abusers ideology.
Dear wee darling fragile flea-bitten, mangy, tick-infested Puppy Killer - your state, North Dakota, which you governed, received $26.6 billion in federal agricultural subsidies but paid $9,748,917,000 in federal taxes.
That’s Socialism at work, Puppy Killer. You’re a Socialist. I am subsidizing your state. I want my money back.
Made me smile! Thanks! Not the puppy killer part. I was so disgusted when I initially read that story. It truly speaks to who she is. Oh…the other story that stunned me was when she bragged because she had bought her very young grandchildren guns! Wow! What an achievement. What a grandmother.
Kristi is a liar. The repugnants want to burn LA to the ground so they can develop it with Trump hotels and golf courses while being free to drill freely offshore. It is the same plan they have for Gaza.
Asha, everything Trump says is an exaggeration and TV/cable news oblige him. As the military is deployed, wherever it is, it is necessary for local patriots to continuously provide on the ground video to on social media to counter Trump's FEAR narrative.
I live in LA County and flew in to LAX earlier this week. You would think from their reporting that the entire city of LA was on fire. It is not. No one was talking about it at LAX. My neighborhood was as quiet and peaceful as it usually is. Nor is it a rebellion or an insurrection. (Thanks for the judge's definition!) It's just unarmed protests against his indiscriminate detention actions, AKA raids. 99% peaceful.
Why is there no helicopter or drone footage of LA shown in their reporting? Because that would counter the FEAR narrative they push. The media serves their corporate interests, not the public interest, which is a complete abandonment of their job as the free press.
San Diego County turned out today...over 5,000 in my town of Carlsbad and over 60,000 in SD.
Why haven't the definitions of some of these terms like; rebellion, insurrection, etc., been written into the laws that prescribe consequences for those actions? Did lawmakers just not think of it? Or is there some assumption that the dictionary - which one? - will cover it legally? Seems like another hole in our system of norms and traditions.
I believe that Trump will never step down. He will simply
1. Continue ignoring the Supreme Court;
2. He won’t let Congress seat any New Democrats elected in the ’26 Midterms; and
3. If necessary, he’ll Declare the 2028 Presidential Election to be the Null and Void.
Hegseth is already replacing the top military Brass with Trump Loyalists so the Military will comply. By ignoring the 2026 elections Trump will maintain his control of Congress. And he has already demonstrated his willingness to ignore the Courts.
In all likelihood Mr. Trump will rule until he passes away and his successor will be the
No I actually attended three protest rallies each within 50 miles of my home, one on Friday and two on Saturday. And I started protesting in March because I actually believe our only hope is peaceful protest and resistance. But I also realize that most people in America still don’t understand how easily the worst case scenario can happen. That’s why I outlined above the dire circumstances I believe we’re in. And I’m absolutely convinced we need far more than five million people in the streets if we hope to stop Trump and his backers. Tens of millions of us need to be in the streets almost daily and soon if we hope to successfully defeat Trump’s fascist plans. There is no other way.
P.S. I guess I should have included this in my original post. My apologies.
Glad to hear you participated. Agree with you that our only hope of ending the reign of Trump is peaceful protest. Of course, one massive protest will not reach through to those who voted for him. I'm talking here about the swing voters and the Dems who didn't turn out who gave him his very small win. (Not his MAGA base; they're cooked.) The protests must be sustained over time. That's gonna be hard - you know how distractible Americans are in the age of 24/7 cable news and social media.
I don't know if requires tens of millions almost daily. That seems impossible. Regardless, I will take advantage of every opportunity available to me to protest in the street and encourage others to do so. Regardless of the outcome, it's the right thing to do
Judge Breyer's legal definition of a Rebellion certainly makes sense to me. But is it largely accepted throughout the Judiciary.....ie is there significant appellate and/or SCOTUS documented concurrence on this that it might be considered as precedent? I know precedent seems to be turning into a quaint outdated thing. Just curious how well accepted Judge Breyer's definition might be.
The marines detained (prevented someone from leaving) vs protected (prevented someone from attacking or assaulting). I don’t see how that isn’t a violation of PC.
I think DJT/the deplorable, are banking on ginny thomas support and alitos, and we all know those two wives wear the pants in the family. What's odd was DJT, dissing Harlan Crowe! He kisses every other billionaires ass. As reported Crowe gave thomas trips etc.., but the coup needed ginny thomas. I sound like a conspiracy theorist, sorry. Also, which state did Elon musk try and buy the judge.
My bigger question. Is this flawed reasoning by me? My statement. It jumps to a few unfounded conclusions, but the supreme court is just sketchy , in my opinion.
..<><>.. our motto in days of conflict in another Time period (Vietnam War) was challenging and later on in life was very disturbing for me.Finding out now the President of the US is sooo disturbing for i that this two face hypocrite who was given a pass for health issues (foot bone spurs) reading reports it was a fictitious diagnosis by a doctor (taking money on the down under) purported fictitious facts to keep his AzZ out of service!! Thank you for everything, Asha. You have been busy indeed.
I’m glad you included those lines from The Declaration of Independence. I have been thinking of those lines as the No Kings demonstrations take place.

This should be sparking prolonged outrage.
You explain things so well and are so enjoyable to read. Plus you’re amazing because of all the interviews and features you do. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
