At the request of some of you in the chat room (join us if you haven’t already!) I am writing up a syllabus that will offer an overview of the topics we’ll be covering, and associated readings, for the next 6-8 weeks. While I put that together, I wanted to highlight two items I will be discussing in tomorrow’s lecture:
This op-ed, written by Mike Flynn on Election Day in 2016 (and the updated editor’s note at the bottom)
This article about an internal audit currently underway at the Defense Department about how it conducts clandestine information warfare operations online
Both will be linked to in the lecture but the discussion questions will reference them so I wanted to flag them in advance.
Also, next week’s class will be a guest speaker, fellow Substack writer
, former Governor on the Broadcasting Board of Governors and former executive director of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy, who will help answer the question, Why can’t the U.S. get its act together when it comes to information warfare? We will have a live Zoom discussion at 1pm EST on Tuesday, December 20 (link will be sent that morning to paid subscribers), and a recording will be posted on Substack Wednesday morning. Look forward to seeing many of you then!
