We had a fantastic — and more hopeful than I expected — discussion with Yale University Professor Jacob Hacker, on the pull towards extremist on the American right and what we can do about it. Professor Hacker explained the three “Rs”: Racialization (i.e. racism), Resentment, and Rigging, all of which become necessary tactics to mobilize voters and keep winning elections once any pretense of delivering on broader economic policies are abandoned. I hope you’ll give it a watch, as the discussion connects a lot of different threads, including what is now going on at the Supreme Court and why it is especially dangerous when it comes to providing an institutional check on the partisan asymmetry.
