Your diagrams are worth a thousand words, and your Trump stick-figure with flappy combover is spot on! LOL

It's amazing how something can be both entertaining, and brilliant/helpful. I think Asha has cornered the market on that.

I love the end of your sub-title...it's exactly how I feel!

And your previous work about Musk is forever golden... “marketplace of [selective] ideas”

I treasure your wit and wisdom Asha. Even just talking about Elon Musk’s foolish self-limiting actions regarding Substack. Interesting about this unique feature in NY state law. Am staying tuned. I wondered if Bragg was purposefully not stating too much specificity to maintain a surprise element rather than have trump and company sketch out their planned statements to influence and pull the wool over the public’s eyes. What a strange week in American politics. Between the trump Indictment, the TN three, and then the practically simultaneous and opposite TX Judges decisions. One thing trump accomplished was breathing in new life to his dead campaign. It went from routinely being mentioned as a candidate to all trump 24/7. My hope is that it reminded most Voters how unattractive it is to have trump airing his grievances 24/7 like it as 2016-2020. Speaking for myself I’ll do anything to make sure he loses. Happy Sunday😊

Elucidating as always. There is something about the clarity with which Asha breaks down these sometimes complex issues and leaves one with a clear understanding of what is involved.

It’s hard to believe that Trump was indicted in Manhattan and was arraigned THIS week! It seems like ages ago considering all that has gone down. Thank you for your diagrams & explainers!

To distract & entertain myself this week, I turned to Tournament of Champions - a brackets battle of the top chefs in the US. Each battle is a head-to-head challenge judged blind by luminaries of the gourmet food universe. Lots of upsets and inventive cooking directed by the dreaded Randomizer, not affectionately known as “Randa.”

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the more serious indictments SOON start rolling in, especially since fears of a MAGA revolt in the streets of America never materialized after last week’s indictment!

IMO, serious indictments should occur regardless of the intentions or actions of MAGAs. Deterrence is needed here, and it can't happen without prosecutions against the whole range of Christofascism-enablers and latent insurrectionists.

It’s hard to decide my favorite part of these diagrams! Trump’s hair or David Pecker’s face?? 😆

The NY indictment supports the Law and us. Musk…just the opposite.

Good breakdown and recap, as always.

One thing that started to stand out was the different takes on the indictment by all the fabulous legal analysts on the various cable and broadcast channels. I don't know if you're the one to do it, but a chart of all the different takes would help us non-laywers in understanding the differences. There's a lot of nuance in the law that became very evident this week.

Wow. That would be a highly complex and painstaking task. I understand how it might help some, but it would be very difficult to do, especially for someone who has many other duties, which almost all top analysts have.

thanks for the info. regarding twitter, i dont blame twitter for using whatever means they wish to compete. twitter is free. but they actually have employees who need to pay their bills ect. i guess people think musk should run his business at a loss since hes rich. that sorta doesnt make sense. probably theres no one more inconvenienced by twitter losing money and going out of business than musk and the employees of twitter

Perhaps you will join me in saying, "Auslander raus!" (Foreigner out!) This was a neo-Nazi saying in Germany but we should turn it against people like Removed (Banned) because they are "foreign" to any decent notion of pluralistic democracy, and a menace to us all.

I am sorry. You are discriminated. That is unacceptable.

Even if the bump-up falls through, I am grateful to Mr. Bragg for charging Trump. First, whether or not he is actually charged with a felony for campaign meddling, everyone, including MAGA, knows he is guilty of it. Meanwhile, we are continually being reminded that he had sex with a porn star while his wife was, so to speak, still recovering from her epidural. Then he and a guy named Pecker (of all things) tried to bury his grubby private life with bribes. Finally, the case is likely to keep bringing out the worst in Trump, a side of him--never far below the surface-- that is repellant to everyone except his most berserk followers. These are liabilities even if his charges are reduced to misdemeanors.

2 questions: 1. Who is the guy in the top hat in the bump up drawing? 2. Re "serial election crimes", are you including the expected indictments in GA and from Jack Smith for his involvement in Jan 6th as part of the series? If so, can those indictments, or prosecutions, if they happen, reference People v Donald Trump in any way?

Sandy the top hat guy is the doorman of Trump Tower, who claimed he had a story about Trump fathering a child out of wedlock which the National Enquirer purchased for $30K right before the election. He is included in the statement of facts accompanying the indictment.

Expand full comment

Ah, yes. Thx. I had heard about the doorman's story, but not when it was purchased.

And my second question? I know the answer to the first part is yes cause yesterday I finished listening to the rest of your Tuesday pod with Renato.

What about the second part? Can subsequent prosecutions in your series refer to previous or concurrent prosecutions?

Asha,

If you invited me to be a guest on Wine & Fries I totally would do that; I have loads of funny stories I could share—you definitely would love to hear what happened when I was swarmed by state troopers in western Illinois on my way to a spy party in Denver
