This was so powerful. And so good. You did a tremendous job. I want to get a quote to you. This sums up your whole piece. Sepp Blatter had a quote. I am the prince of Everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!
John Oliver over the years has done some excellent stories on FIFA’s corruption, use of near-slave labor practices, and bribes (like concocted “peace prizes” for The Donald). The Qatar expose particularly resonated: https://youtu.be/UMqLDhl8PXw
I can't believe I somehow made it through the end of the 20th century without ever hearing the name Sepp Blatter. I feel deprived. Thank you for filling this gaping lacuna in my cultural education. Now I'll have to watch the documentary to make up for lost time.
Great story Asha. I have almost forgotten about how corrupt FIFA was/is. That’s probably the most important thing that keeps me from wanting United States children to get more exposure to the sport. We should all be aware that all of these professional sports are run by corrupt people and organizations and it’s all about money.
I do agree, however, that illegally gained assets should be clawed back. All assets Trump, his family, his cronies & his circle of oligarchs that were gained as a result of using the Oval Office as an ATM, should be clawed back and distributed to the American taxpayer or used to pay for all the shit that will need to be fixed by the next Administration.
"And when it comes to process versus culture, culture wins every time." Quite a thought when one thinks of the US political situation. We have to hope that the depredations of the Trump years, and hopeful, credible leadership from the Democrats, influence American culture enough for the constitutional order to reassert itself, reform as needed, and endure.
I wonder if US Soccer (and by extension CONCACAF) has become less corrupt since Cindy Parlow - a star from the 1999 womens US team - became the head of US Soccer a few years ago.
We need a Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, an independent anti-corruption agency with a broad mandate in the field of preventing and investigating corruption, breaches of ethics and integrity of public office. It should be established by an Act on Integrity and prevention of corruption (with later amendments as necessary). With the Act, its mandate, working areas, and powers should be expanded to include, for example, lobbying oversight and whistleblower protection. Powers should include power to subpoena financial documents of the public servants, management, and boards of public enterprises for corruption, conflict of interest, or breach of ethics.
Bondi and Patel do make for a good laugh.

Thank you Asha.
Thanks for sharing your research Asha. Very informative as usual👏
Great summary/example FIFA corruption and how this relates to our current White House Regime.
Thanks for a change of venue for this corruption, Asha. I have to ration my intake of the reporting on the DC crime family.

This is how I felt after watching it!

I think Blatter was tried by a Swiss court and exonerated.

Here’s the UNODC report on corruption in sports.
