Asha, the whole point of propaganda is to lie and gaslight in a way so as to “appear and sound” legitimate as you make clear. In its most basic, Orwellian form it is to convince the recipient that black is white, night is day, war is peace, suffering is pleasure, sadness is joy, and dictatorship is democracy. Or as in Animal Farm, all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

Thank you did this, Asha. We all knew the Biden impeachment inquiry was a political sham meant to distract, but you have added even more depth. And, in doing so, you help to reemphasize the danger our democracy truly faces.

Propaganda targets the uninformed. You are preaching to the choir here, Professor. My question is how can we get the other folks to listen and analyze what they are hearing?

That is exactly right! Makes the Trump cult a likely target!

You are wise beyond your years, Asha. It’s akin to Stalin’s use of language to confuse the masses. Orwell would be keenly pointing out what you are pointing out. We are in the hall of mirrors where actual words and their meaning for the Maga Fascisti are 27th or 28th down the list of priorities. 1 and 2 are to to sling enough volume of words, legal terms, phrases, in a tone conveying they are litigators with extensive knowledge and actual seasoning (they aren’t litigators, the few with law degrees never practiced law) that the public BUYS what these grifters are attempting to SELL. More power to you Professor Rangappa!!

It's almost shockingly apparent, but some people never look past the headline and that's the crowd that the fascists are appealing to. Marks is the technical term.

In addition to “impeachment” in danger of losing its significance, so has the swearing in of the POTUS (Trump) and many MAGA Republican members of Congress who placed their hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the US Constitution. The Founding Fathers never imagined the rise of such a corrupt, treasonous traitor as POTUS with a cult-like following that attempted to overturn the results of a presidential election!!!

One of the things I find particularly amusing about much of today's GOP is the fact they profess to be anti-Communist yet lean towards Vladimir Putin. Last I checked, Putin is a product of a Communist system. In fact, he's its alpha. It's also no coincidence the world's remaining Communist states and parties support Putin.

I totally agree the idea of impeaching Biden is meant to dilute the meaning of the word. Of course, it also echoes the Russian tactic of creating false equivalencies.

This is an excellent piece! Could you link it to Twitter and Spoutible? People need to read this!

A lot of this bears a lot of resemblance to the domestic violence dynamic. Surely part of the point here is to make people think “if I say anything against Trump or any Republican, life is just going to be miserable for years.” Which is how we’ll get, for example, Trump making his son-in-law Secretary of State in a second term.

Taking the power out of “impeachment” totally fits with Trump normalizing his criminality. Do you think he consciously and intentionally does this?
